Whixall Dog Show 2023 Report and Phots
Whixall Companion Dog Show 4 June 2023
The Chairman of the world's biggest dog show Crufts, Mr Tom Mather, was our guest judge at this years Companion Dog Show. He took time out of his busy dog showing and judging schedule to take part in what is becoming the Premier Companion Dog Show in Shropshire. He was here to judge both the pedigree, handling and novelty classes and the show had a good turn out on what was a fine summer's day. Entrants came from near and far - locals from Whixall and surrounding areas and also entrants from as far a field as The Wirral and Wolverhampton!
Mr Mather started showing dogs when he was a schoolboy in the 1960's before judging his first championship show in 1978. He is now approved to judge 80 breeds across all seven groups in the dog show world. Show Manager, Elaine Turnbull said " It was such a pleasure to have Tom come and be part of our dog show and his easy and pleasant manner towards all comp etitors went along way in making it a fun event for all"
The dog show was a real community event with all classes being sponsored by local businesses and firms from Whixall, Whitchurch and Wem. Mrs Turnbull went on to say " Without their great and generous support our annual dog show could not continue and we are grateful to them all". The show also had numerous local stall holders selling a variety of goods to add to the overall fun event.
Mr Mather stated that there were some really nice dogs on the day but that he really enjoyed the friendly and community atmosphere feel of the show and he congratulated the Whixall Social Centre Committee for their hard work i/n ensuring the day was a success.
